#237# : the future unique USSD code for access to mobile financial services

Since July 2017, the Cameroonian government has been working on the creation of a single USSD code for Mobile Money services. Indeed, like telephone calls and other SMS, telephone operators operating in Cameroon used different codes.

This is the case with the Orange operator code #150#, which gives access to the Orange Money service, or *126# to access the money transfer service via mobile at MTN Cameroon. From now on, these operators will have to submit to the regulator, for validation, the tariffs for access to the single USSD code.

Minette Libom Li Likeng, Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, signed on Tuesday 26 November 2019, a decision determining the conditions and operating rules of Unstructured Supplementary Service Data for access to the national platform for aggregating electronic communications in Cameroon.

This platform aims in particular to ensure fair interconnection conditions, reduce the costs of mobile financial transactions and promote financial inclusion. In addition, it will provide access to mobile financial services through a unique code, #237#.

The director of the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART), Philemon Zo'o Zame, explains that "the said platform is housed at Campost[Cameroon's public postal operator], which manages it, and ART is responsible for implementing the above-mentioned decision", reports the site.
