Nigeria - Telecoms: Regulator paves the way for the launch of 5G

As with 4G, Nigeria is ahead of most sub-Saharan African countries on 5G. Following the African Digital Telecommunications Week, which opened in Abuja on 27 August 2019, the telecoms regulator, the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) announced the upcoming approval of the 5G test operations.

In this way, the telecom operators present on this market will be able to test this technology, with a view to pre-positioning themselves. Also, the NCC announces the upcoming launch of calls for tenders for the acquisition of 5G operating licenses. With the announcement of the upcoming launch of the tests by operators, Nigeria joins Morocco, Algeria, South Africa and Lesotho, which have already been successfully testing 5G for some since 2018.
