24 billion FCFA in 2021 for the Special Telecom Fund, down 6 billion

At the end of its Board of Directors meeting held on 14 and 15 December 2020 in Yaounde, the Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ART) of Cameroon decided on the amount of CFAF 24.89 billion as resources to be allocated to the Special Telecommunications Fund (TSF).

This amount is a decrease of 6.13 billion FCFA, or a drop of 19.38% compared to the year 2020 when the supply of the said Fund had been stopped at 31.62 billion FCFA.

The ART has not explained the reasons for this decline, but sources close to the Board of Directors indicate that it is due to the economic situation marked by the coronavirus crisis that has been raging in the country since March 2020. These resources will enable a substantial revival of projects in the telecommunications sub-sector.

Internet coverage

In this register, we can mention the coverage of telecommunication networks in landlocked border areas, the implementation of a hybrid connection solution for the Internet service of multipurpose community telecentres, high schools and colleges, etc.

As stated in the 2010 Electronic Communications Act, the contribution of electronic communications operators and service providers to the TSP is 3% of their annual pre-tax revenues.

The Fund's interventions are carried out through three separate and independent windows. These are the universal service window; the window for the development of electronic communications throughout the national territory; and the window for the development of information and communication technologies.
