RFI Challenge App Africa is a competition associated with a RFI program and launched every year since 2016. The prize is awarded in a French-speaking African country, aiming to develop the Internet as a citizen by encouraging projects in the public interest. The first three editions have rewarded:

- 2016 in Dakar: Cheick Oumar Bagayoko (Mali), a young Malian doctor and computer scientist for his application of remote medical expertise "Bogou".

- 2017 in Abidjan: Raissa Banhoro (Côte d'Ivoire), for her functional literacy application "Lucie"

- 2018 in Cotonou: Serge Auguste Zaongo (Burkina Faso), for his application to monitor the irrigation of an agricultural holding.

In 2019, RFI launched the fourth edition of the "RFI Challenge App Afrique" competition, which this year aims to promote the integration of new technologies in the field of urban development and smart cities in French-speaking Africa. Open to all Africans and young companies on the continent, this edition rewards digital innovations (websites, applications, SMS services...) that improve urban services and the quality of life of citizens.
